(1942-2008) He is a 3-time Grammy winner
who scored his biggest hit, "Soul Man" (1967),
a song honored by the Grammy and
Rock and Roll Halls of Fame. Hayes also
wrote film scores, including the Oscar-winning
"Theme from Shaft" (1972). Hayes, influential
in the evolution of soul and disco music,
is himself a member of both the Rock and Roll
